Shock absorbers is a mechanical device which is designed to smooth out or damp shock impulse for comfortable and smooth derive or ride. shock absorbers also know as are damper and dash-pot.
Performance comparison of the Shock absorber:
Shock absorber’s copmpression occurs when the cars or vehicles tirs is forced upward upon hitting a bump, shock absorber extension is the out war movement of the piston and rod as the control arm moves down. This occurs right after a compression stoke or when a tire rolls over a hole in the road.
Purpose of shock absorber:
Springs discussed above are not satisfactory for a suspension system. It must be a compromise between flexibility and stiffness. It must be flexible so that it can absorb road shock. But if it is too flexible it will flex and rebound repeatedly so that which will give a rough ride. A stiff spring will not flex and rebound repeatedly a bump has passed. On the other hand it will also give a hard ride because it will transmit too much of the road shock to the car. By using a relatively flexible or soft spring with a shock absorber a satisfactory smooth ride achieved. Thus a shock the car would continue to bounce up and down after striking a dip or hump in the road. This makes the ride is uncomfortable and unsafe. you can see basic parts of a hydraulic shock absorber and it’s working. Its main parts are dust shield, piston rod, pressure tube, piston valve, reservoir tube, base valve, top plug and oil seal.
Working of the shock absorber :
When the shock absorber length is compressed or extended, the oil causes resistance to movement the rod tends to drag slowly in or out. This dampers spring absorbs compression and extension action. One end of the shock absorber connects to a suspension component, usually a control arm.
